Take a Peek Into Tribal Crafts: A Prism Learning Community Class
This quarter, one of the classes being offered by Prism Learning Community, a homeschooling cooperative and resource center located in Waynesboro, Virginia, is Tribal Crafts!
Each week in Tribal Crafts, we explore different Native American cultures. We learn about their way of life, and what makes them unique from other tribes. Our community members are exposed to videos, when possible, of various tribes celebrating, dancing, singing, speaking, etc. We then focus on making super fun crafts relative to that tribe.
This week our learners made Native American headdresses and shakers for use in a fun march around the Prism campus after class. Above you can see one of our learners choosing feathers for use in his crafts.
Here you can see an example of a shaker made by one of our learners. He threaded beads, a shell, and bells onto a string that was then tied between the fork of his branch. He chose the bright red feathers that adorn it.
Our learners vary in age from infants to teens. The preschool aged child above is focusing on threading a bell onto his string, while one of our preteen learners in the same class chose instead to focus on decorating an image of a Native American tribesman.
Last week in Tribal Crafts, our learners made Native American style drums. They then participated in a spirited drum circle! You can view a snippet of that class and the drum circle by clicking HERE, which will take you to a video we posted on our Facebook page.
Prism Learning Community is focused on offering a wide variety of learning opportunites to homeschoolers throughout the Shenandoah Valley. We welcome new members at any time! Feel free to reach out to info@PrismLearningCommunity.org and come sit in on one or more of our homeschool classes!
